BOOT CAMP

The course will include an elective Short Course Boot Camp on Sunday morning and early afternoon,  March 18th  that will introduce students to basic concepts and practice that will help them with microscopy, imaging  and basic histology practice associated with the course.

Annual Short Course
Including laboratory sessions
IMMUNOHISTOCHEMISTRY AND MICROSCOPY
March 18 - 20, 2012
Marine Biological Laboratory, Woods Hole, MA

The HCS Short Course, precedes the HCS annual scientific meeting, covers all essential elements for  understanding and implementing the principles of immunohistochemistry and microscopy. The course is a closely integrated three days of lectures and laboratory sessions with the experienced faculty participating in both the lecture and  the laboratory sessions.
The practical aspects of using IHC in the laboratory will be emphasized and upon completion students should be able to independently carry out an IHC study.

The course includes lectures and related laboratory modules or demonstrations.  Groups of students will carry out IHC on an individual basis and will  be led by one or more faculty members who have extensive experience in the theory and practice of IHC. The following are the topics the course will cover.

General principles of IHC
chromogen and fluorescent detection methods
 antigen retrieval
 amplification methods
 control
 fixation
 double labeling and co-localization strategies
 image: ethics, authenticity, and management
 microwave processing in IHC, and
troubleshooting.

Registration is limited to 40 participants.   For more information go to:
